We had planned a walk in the Peak District, but this meant an early start. It’s that point that meant our day had to be replanned. Two of the kids suffering with a sticky mattress, not allowing us time to get there early enough. A quick shuffle through the English Heritage book, we found Witley Court and Gardens.
We arrived before the site opened, so a quick change of footwear, walking boots and wellies put on, grab the bag with snacks and drinks.
The kids enjoy the Easter Quests that English Heritage put on, (a sneaky way of learning some history).
As you go through the entrance, there are some gardens and play area, the house is at the bottom of a path and over a bridge.
It is a beautiful building, and the size is mind blowing, one of the questions on the Easter Escapades was how many rooms are on the ground floor, we initally thought there were JUST 7 rooms, but when they counted and followed the room around we counted 17.
Out of the doors there are beautiful gardens, with workign fountains. The one fountain has Perseus and Andromeda on it, the fountain on this part is started up on the hour every hour, crowds gather just before the hour ready for it.
Witley Court, set in the Worcesterhsire countryside was built in the 17th Century and remodelled in the Victorian times, but a fire ripped through it in 1937.
After visiting Witley Court, ake sure you visit the church right next door, it’s not the biggest but is a spectacular sight inside.
