Open Farm Sunday is a free event where farms open up their doors and show people what goes into farming.
We went to one a couple of years back, so when it came around again this year we found one to go to. This was Forceleap Farm in Northamptonshire.
After around an hours drive we parked in the farmers field, and walked across to the main farm site. The farm has roughly 1200 acres of land, and farms cattle and sheep as well as Wheat and other grains supplying some of the household names including Warburtons and Carlsberg.
There was chance to have a tractor ride around some of the farm land. The joy of Open Farm Sunday is the chance to understand how a farm works, and see some of that work in action.
There were plenty of activities for kids (and adults) to have a go at, the vets having toy sheep showing how they do a caesarean section.
We saw sheep shearing, including 2 rams trying to show who was best. Lots of machinery on display, although not in operation. Kids though do love climbing onto tractors and a hige combine harvester.
There were talks from people who help make the farm work, including their vets, Bee Keepers (with the chance to buy some their honey).
Overall a very good day, can’t wait for the next Open farm Sunday.
