Our Exciting Day at Fort George in Inverness!

We decided to explore the historic gem of Fort George located just outside of Inverness, and let me tell you, it was a fantastic adventure!

A Glimpse into the Past

As soon as we arrived, we were captivated by the sheer size of the fort. This impressive fortress, built in the 18th century, was designed to protect the city from potential invasions after the Jacobite risings. Walking through the gates felt like stepping back in time, ready to embrace a day of history and fun.

Guided Tour Shenanigans

We kicked off our visit with a guided tour led by a local historian dressed in period-appropriate attire. His energy was contagious! He regaled us with tales of battles, the life of soldiers, and the fort’s significance in Scottish history. We couldn’t help but laugh as he reenacted some of the more dramatic moments from the past—complete with sword-waving!

Exploring the Grounds

After the tour, we set off to explore the fort at our own pace. The cannon emplacements and barracks provided endless opportunities for fun photos! We tried our best to look fierce as we posed with mock weapons, proving that we could totally be warriors of the 18th century (in our imagination, at least).

A Scenic Picnic

After all the excitement, we found a lovely spot on the fort’s grassy grounds for a picnic. Surrounded by breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, we enjoyed sandwiches, snacks, and lots of laughter. It was the perfect way to unwind after an eventful day.

Views out to Sea

The view from the ramparts of the castle look out to sea, and you may be able to see dolphins playing.
