Today, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the stunning exhibition of Dippy in Coventry. The long-awaited arrival of the famous diplodocus skeleton in the city’s Herbert Art Gallery and Museum has been a major draw for dinosaur enthusiasts like us.
A Majestic Creature
Dippy, the diplodocus skeleton, is undoubtedly the star of the show. We arrived before the gallery opened, therefore the little one could see the dinosaur from outside, and couldn’t wait to get in. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by the sheer size and grandeur of the magnificent dinosaur. With its massive frame, long neck, and tail, Dippy exudes a sense of awe and wonder that is hard to describe. It is truly a privilege to witness such a well-preserved specimen up close.
Educational and Engaging
Besides its awe-inspiring presence, the Dippy exhibition is also highly educational and engaging. The museum has done an excellent job of providing informative displays and interactive activities for visitors of all ages. We were able to learn about the various aspects of dinosaur life, including their feeding habits, habitats, and the challenges they faced during their time on Earth. Alongisde Dippy was a display of varius fossils from differnet historical periods, the kids were all fascinated by them
A Sense of History
Apart from the dinosaur itself, the exhibition also sheds light on the history of Dippy and its significance. Originally discovered in the late 19th century, Dippy has captured the imagination of people around the world for decades. It has traveled to various locations and has become an iconic symbol of natural history.
The exhibit showcases the journey of Dippy and the impact it has had on scientific discoveries and our understanding of dinosaurs. It’s fascinating to see how one skeleton can have such a profound influence on our knowledge and fascination with the past.
As well as Dippy, there was the rest of the museum and gallery, the museum gives a history of coventry from their sporting history including Coventry Speedway, Coventry City. They had the story of the Blitz and how it affected the city including destroying the cathedral. Upstairs there was an art gallery with local artists displaying their work.

Our visit to Dippy in Coventry was an unforgettable experience. The combination of the majestic presence of Dippy, the informative displays, and interactive activities made for a truly engaging outing.
